Meet the BuildHERs: Dr. Sabrina L. Brown
Meet Dr. Sabrina L. Brown: UNC Charlotte’s Assistant Dean for Graduate Enrollment Management, musical-theater fan and BuildHER keynote speaker whose leadership story began in an unexpected place: Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Handling unusual orders and Sunday-afternoon chicken crowds taught her two lessons she still carries today: “You get to just show up and be you,” and “If you stay ready, you don’t have to get ready.”
Before taking the stage, Sabrina admits, “Mostly it’s me talking to my imposter.” Her confidence-boosting playlist includes “I’m Here” from The Color Purple, “Wait For It” from Hamilton and “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman.
At BuildHER, Sabrina will bring that same honesty to a conversation about moving from operational excellence to strategic leadership. She doesn’t sugarcoat the journey for women: “It’s courageous, but it’s hard, and it’s heavy, and we can’t do it alone.”
The opportunity she wants to hold open for others is rooted in a simple belief: “Your story matters, and it has a place.”
And if she could put one message on a billboard along I-85?
“Believe in your brilliance.”
