Meet the BuildHERs: Beth Morrison-North

Categories:

By day, Beth Morrison-North leads Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte, helping older adults, veterans and families remain safely in their homes. After hours? She may be leading a very different kind of team.

“I’m a gamer,” Beth says. Her game of choice is Overwatch, an online team game she has played “for years and years” — and a hobby that often surprises people who know her only as an executive director.

Beth brings that same willingness to take on a challenge to her work. Leaving the corporate world for a nonprofit with little money in the bank was her biggest professional leap. “I was betting on myself,” she says, trusting that the need existed and that community support could help build something more sustainable.

That experience taught her not to wait for someone else to declare her ready. Beth has sat at plenty of tables, looked around and wondered, “How did that person get here?” Her takeaway for other women: “Don’t doubt yourself.” If you don’t claim the seat, someone with more confidence may take it, and theirs will be the voice heard in the room.

As a member of BuildHER’s Women Leading in Charlotte executive panel, Beth will bring a perspective shaped by more than a decade in affordable housing and community development. She has seen how often women connect families with critical support: “Women are really the ones that are finding the resources in the community” and helping loved ones move toward safer, healthier lives.

For women ready to grow as leaders, Beth recommends looking beyond the usual workplace connections. Join a board, volunteer or serve alongside people you might never otherwise meet. “Look to the community,” she says, where new relationships and experiences can open unexpected doors.

Join Beth at BuildHER on Nov. 13 for the Women Leading in Charlotte executive panel and learn how to claim your seat at the table, build meaningful connections and lead with confidence.
