Amy Noland Pack knows that successful networking isn’t about collecting the most business cards. It’s about making connections that matter.
As co-founder and principal partner of AccruePartners, Amy has built a career connecting organizations with the talent they need to move forward. At BuildHER, she’ll lead the Work Site breakout session “Connections That Count,” where she’ll help participants approach networking with more intention and a lot less pressure.
Amy describes herself as “a very social person,” but even she has a strategy for navigating a crowded room when her energy is fading: find one person and focus. “My social battery usually dies when I get home,” she says. Until then, she looks for an opportunity to “spend some quality time” with one person and re-engage through a meaningful conversation.
She’s also quick to notice when someone is struggling to enter a conversation. We’ve all seen it: a person approaches a group, no one acknowledges them and “you just want to crawl under the closest table.” Amy’s response is simple: pause, introduce yourself and bring that person into the conversation.
What makes her internally roll her eyes? Watching someone race around the room trying to meet everyone. “No one wants to be a checklist,” she says. Three or four thoughtful conversations can create more possibilities than 15 shallow ones with little value.
And if you meet Amy at the BuildHER coffee bar, skip the question about what she does. Ask about a recent trip, favorite destination or upcoming travel plans. Just don’t lead with the latest television show. “The only thing I watch is the news. If the TV even comes on.”
Join Amy at BuildHER on Nov. 13 for Connections that Count, and learn how to move beyond surface-level networking to build authentic, meaningful professional relationships.
