Program Tabs


The Respiratory Therapy Program prepares graduates of associate-level programs in respiratory therapy who have achieved the RRT credential with the expanded knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills necessary to become leaders in respiratory education, management, research and advanced clinical practice.

The Bachelors of Science in Respiratory Therapy degree enhances your professional career in Respiratory Therapy with additional education in administration, evidence-based research, and advanced critical care.

The focus of the program is to:

  • Increase the depth and breadth of knowledge of the associate degree education.
  • Improve written and oral communication skills.
  • Develop ability to access and evaluate clinical evidence-centered care.

The program is 100% online and designed to be flexible for working professionals. 


Application Deadlines: 

  • July 1 (fall) 
  • November 15 (spring)

Admissions & Requirements: 

To be considered for admission to the Respiratory Therapy Program, you must meet the following minimum admission eligibility requirements:

  • Current unencumbered license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • AAS in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC-accredited associate degree program within a university accredited by a US Department of Education-recognized institutional accreditor.
  • Transfer GPA 2.0 or better while earning at least a C in all coursework. 

The Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy at UNC Charlotte (program #500001) has been provisionally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care.


    Two applications are required for admissions:

    • Respiratory Therapy (BSRT)
    • University Application
    • Admission to UNC Charlotte is independent of admission to the Respiratory Therapy Program. The application process is a dual process. 

    Step 1: Apply to the Department of Applied Physiology, Health & Clinical Sciences by completing the online application

    BSRT Application

    • As part of this application, please submit the required following items by email to Stephannie Miles. Failure to do so may delay the review of your file for admission.
      • A photocopy of your registered respiratory therapist credential certificate or card.
      • A photocopy of your respiratory care license with expiration date.
      • A current basic life support or basic CPR certification.

    Step 2: Apply for admission to UNC Charlotte as a transfer student

    New Student to UNCC:

    University Application

    • Apply as a transfer student to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
    • Complete the application. Select Respiratory Therapy as the major.
    • Provide all post-secondary transcripts, a transcript from each school.
    • High School transcripts are not required with an associate degree.

      *Costs are based on 44 credits, however some students may only need to take 38 credits based on background and credit transfer.
