Program

The Nurse Administrator program is designed for registered nurses with a bachelor's degree, who desire to enhance their administrative skills and advanced practice nurses with a master's degree who seek additional knowledge to be more competitive in managing personnel and a wider range of patients. 

The program is 100% online and designed to be flexible for working professionals hoping to continue their education. 

The Certificate in Nurse Administrator can be completed in 12 months if enrolled part-time and must be completed within four years.

Admissions & Requirements: 

General requirements for graduate students at UNC Charlotte can be found on the Graduate Admissions website.  

In addition to the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School, the following are required for admission to the Graduate Certificate: Nurse Administrator program:

  1. Current unrestricted licensure as a Registered Nurse. Current license in North Carolina or a compact state or the state identified by faculty for clinical practice before enrollment. OR Graduation from a post secondary level Nursing Program (United States RN Registration not required).
  2. Baccalaureate degree from a university accredited by a US Dept. of Education-recognized institutional accreditor.
  3. A statement of purpose describing experience and area of specialization or interest in nursing practice.
  4. Three letters of recommendation from professional colleagues.

The Nurse Administrator program consists of 12 semester hours.  Students will complete four specialty courses.  The certificate can be completed in one year through part-time study. Students in degree programs may be able to (if approved) transfer up to 6 hours from another university. Please consult with your advisor.

Additional Certificate Requirements

  • Completion of 12 hours required coursework within 4 years.
  • Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 ("B") GPA in their graduate courses, and may not accumulate more than two "C" grades.
