Program Tabs

Program

The Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) in Foreign Language Education program is composed of two phases:  The Graduate Certificate in Teaching Foreign Language Education (K-12) (Phase I) and the Master’s degree completion phase (Phase II).

Upon completion of the Graduate Certificate in Teaching Foreign Language Education (K-12) (Phase I), qualified candidates may apply to continue into Phase II to complete the remaining requirements for the Master's degree and qualify for the advanced Standard Professional II teaching license. Phase I consists of 16-17 credit hours and Phase 2 consists of 14 credit hours, for a total of 30-31 Credit Hours for the Graduate Certificate and MAT.

  • Qualified candidates who have completed Phase I may apply to continue into Phase II to complete the remaining requirements for the Master’s degree and qualify for the advanced Standard Professional II teaching license.
  • The content of our program is aligned with the standards for foreign language teacher training defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Each classroom assignment addresses the competencies that this organization identifies as needed by the teachers of foreign language.
  • Coursework addresses such topics as: lesson plan design, equity and education, methods and assessment in teaching foreign languages, and a student teaching internship (Phase 1) as well as teacher leadership, advanced methodology, and research skills (Phase 2).

The program is 100% online and designed to be flexible for working professionals hoping to continue their education.
