MYCAA Military Spouse Funding

As the spouse of an active-duty service member, you may qualify for up to $4,000 through the MyCAA Scholarship to pursue career training or certifications. UNC Charlotte offers 100% online, MyCAA-approved programs you can complete at your own pace. Many of these programs cover the cost of certification exams, helping you earn credentials that can move your career forward, wherever life takes you.

Our programs are open enrollment so you can begin anytime, and most of our online course certificate exam fees are included.

MyCAA Eligibility Requirements

Spouses of an active-duty Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, National Guard, or Reserve member in pay grades E-1 to E-5, W-1 to W-2, or O-1 to O-2 are eligible.

Spouses of National Guard or AGR Members on federal Title 10 active-duty orders, may be eligible.

What is the MyCAA Scholarship?

The My Career Advancement Account MyCAA) Scholarship program is a workforce initiative for spouses of active-duty service members developed by the Department of Defense’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program. Spouses that are approved can receive up to $4,000 in funding to pursue career training, certifications, or associate degrees for a specific career.

Does the MyCAA Scholarship pay for everything related to my courses?

The MyCAA Scholarship pays for tuition for credentials, certificates, and associate degrees with a specific career path or major and the exams leading to licensure or industry certification within that field.

The MyCAA Scholarship does NOT pay for housing, travel, books, equipment, supplies, uniforms, computers, or electronic devices of any kind.

Who is not eligible for MyCAA?

Spouses who are:

  • Married to service members in pay grades E-6 and above, W-3 and above, and O-3 and above, unless a spouse has an approved Education and Training Plan in place prior to their sponsor’s promotion above the eligible ranks.
  • A member of the armed forces currently on Title 10 orders or are married but legally separated, or under court order or statute of any state or U.S. territory, from a member of the armed forces on Title 10 orders.
  • National Guard or reserve military sponsor with warning orders/alert, post-deployment/demobilization, or transition status, or are unable to apply for financial assistance while their military sponsor is on Title 10 orders or before the sponsor’s date of separation.

Professional Development Discounts & Payment Options

Alumni Discount

Alumni of UNC Charlotte are eligible for a 10% discount off the FULL PRICE registration fee for courses. If you graduated with a degree from UNC Charlotte you can send an email to our registration office (ceregistration@charlotte.edu) with the subject ‘Alumni’. In the email please state the certificate you would like to register for and your full name at the time you were a student and, if you have it, your 800 ID number. We’ll confirm you are an alum and then provide you with a code to enter when you register.

Continuing education courses and certificates eligible for the discount will indicate the Alumni price adjustment option for the course section. When you add the course section to your shopping cart, select the option for Coupon Code Discount and enter the code provided to you.

Continuing education course discounts are not layered – i.e., the single best discount is applied but multiple discounts are not layered on top of one another.

Bundle and Save

Benefits

By paying for all the courses in a certificate upfront, you can enroll at a discounted rate. Our certificate bundle options help save you both time and money as you are registering for all the certificate courses in advance.

How does it work?

As you select the certificate bundle, click on “add to cart” and select the individual course sections you want. Click on “Checkout” and continue following the instructions to login or create your account. After checkout, you will receive a confirmation email and other reminders regarding course specifics.

Early Bird Discount

You will receive a 5% discount off the FULL PRICE fee for early registration if you register 2 weeks or more prior to the course start date. Course sections eligible for a discount will indicate discount options you may choose as a Price Adjustment after you add the course section to your shopping cart. After selecting a discount, click Update and you will see the revised total amount due.

Be advised; some courses fill to capacity before the Early Bird deadline, so early registration is strongly recommended.

Faculty and Staff Discount

20% off the FULL PRICE registration fee for UNC Charlotte faculty and staff.

You must be an eligible UNC Charlotte faculty or staff member to receive the discount. Course sections eligible for this discount will be marked accordingly on our website and you may choose this discount as a Price Adjustment after you add the course section to your shopping cart. After selecting a discount, click Update and you will see the revised total amount due. 

If your department is paying for your registration fee, you may use your P-Card online or call our Registration Center at 704-687-8900 to register and for details on payment paperwork required.

Graduate Student Discount

All current UNC Charlotte graduate students receive a 20% discount off the full price registration fee for this course section.

After you add this course section to your shopping cart, select Graduate Student Discount as a Price Adjustment. After selecting the discount, click Update and you will see the revised total amount due.

Loan Options

Loan options reduce out-of-pocket costs so that you may begin your program without paying up front and enable you to reserve your seat ASAP!

How does it work?

There are plenty of options for continuing education loans – you just need to know where to look. Many of the traditional student loan companies also offer loans for those taking continuing education courses. For your convenience, we offer this handy ELM Select alternative loan tool that walks you through private educational loan options for continuing education programs.

Reminder: When applying for a loan, please ensure you are choosing the correct school name to have your loan application sent to the correct office. Not doing so will create delays in processing.

Pay as You Go

Benefits

  • Pay for each course one at a time, when you are ready
  • Enables you to stretch out payments, rather than paying for the entire certificate at once
  • Be careful not to wait too long–courses can fill up!
  • Not interested in completing the entire certificate? Just pay for the individual courses that you need.

How does it work?

As you select the individual courses you want to take, click on “add to cart” and then checkout when finished. Select the registration fee amount or deposit (if applicable) for your selected courses and continue to follow the instructions to login or create your account. Payment Plan

Pay for your certificate while attending classes by signing up for automatically drafted payments. Put down the initial deposit then set up monthly payments that will be drafted out every month until the full certificate is paid in full. Full payment will be received before the last day of your program. When checking out and selecting your payment method, choose ‘Pay deposit and use scheduled payments’.


By signing up for the payment plan you are agreeing to the following policies:

  • A deposit is due upon enrolling.
  • This is a monthly payment plan in which the specified amount will be due starting the day after the first day of class and on that date each month until the full payment has been received. You will set up the payment plan during checkout.
  • This payment plan is structured so that you will have paid in full by the end of the course.
  • This is an auto-draft payment plan. Should your card be declined or expire during the payment plan you will be required to update your card and continue with payments on schedule.
  • If a payment is missed, the past due amount will be due immediately. If payment is not received within 10 business days from the date of the missed payment, you are at risk of being dropped from the program with no refund.
  • UNC Charlotte School of Professional Studies’ policy states that it will not refund payment after the course start date. If you drop this course before completing it, you will still be responsible for the full course cost. You may either pay that balance in full, or maintain the auto-draft payments.
  • If extenuating circumstances arise, you may submit a request in writing to appeal at ceregistration@charlotte.edu attn: Isabella Welton.
Professional Association Discount

Members of the following professional associations receive a 15% discount off the FULL PRICE registration fee for this course section:

  • ASQ (American Society for Quality)
  • ATD (Association for Talent Development) formerly known as ASTD
  • IIBA (International Institute of Business Analysis)
  • PMI (Project Management Institute)
  • SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management)

To receive the discount, you must register two or more weeks in advance of the course start date. After you add this course section to your shopping cart, select Professional Association Discount as a Price Adjustment. After selecting the discount, click Update and you will see the revised total amount due.

SHRM Member Discount

SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) members receive a 15% discount off the FULL PRICE registration fee for the HR Certification Exam Prep: HRCI PHR®/SPHR® and SHRM CP/SCP program (HRE102). To receive the discount, you must register two or more weeks in advance of the program start date.
