Obtain Your Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification Online

The Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification is the highest knowledge level for Six Sigma. By earning your Master Black Belt certification online with The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, you will become qualified to mentor Black Belts and advise leadership strategy for Lean Six Sigma. Many Master Black Belts move on to lead special projects and teach the methodology themselves.

UNC Charlotte’s Master Black Belt certification program is designed for experienced Lean Six Sigma Black Belts who are looking to advance their careers and become leaders in the field. Our program covers advanced topics in Lean Six Sigma, including:

  • Process mapping
  • Process improvement
  • Statistical analysis
  • Experiment design
  • Change management
  • Deployment

You will gain the leadership, project coaching, process improvement and data analysis skills needed to mentor Black Belts and Green Belts through their Lean Six Sigma projects. You will also learn the skills it takes to run a Lean Six Sigma program office within your organization.

At the conclusion of the online coursework, you must pass an exam by scoring at least 70%. You will then begin the final segment of the program — coaching several of your own projects from end to end, with the guidance and support of your instructor.

UNC Charlotte’s Master Black Belt Six Sigma certification course was designed by Dr. Jonathan Mayhorn. Dr. Mayhorn teaches all of our Lean Six Sigma belt courses, as well as some of our Project Management Professional certification prep courses. He is a certified Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, Project Management Professional and Scrum Master.

Course Details

UNC Charlotte’s Master Black Belt certification program is about 35 hours in length. You must earn your Black Belt certification prior to registering for the Master Black Belt program. If you have earned your Black Belt through another provider, you will need to supply us with information about the structure of that course, as well as provide us proof of completion so we may determine if the course meets our prerequisite requirement.

Once your Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt coursework is complete, the final step to certification is coaching. During this final portion, you will enter into a one-on-one virtual project coaching environment with your instructor.
