A New Path to CFP® Certification, Built in a City That Knows Finance

Categories:

Charlotte didn’t become the nation’s second-largest banking center by accident.

Its financial roots stretch back to the textile era, when local banks financed the industries driving the region’s growth. North Carolina’s favorable banking environment later allowed institutions to expand aggressively, and Charlotte became home to two banking powerhouses: NCNB, which evolved into NationsBank and ultimately Bank of America, and First Union, which became Wachovia before its acquisition by Wells Fargo.

That history helped transform Charlotte into a major financial center, second only to New York in banking prominence. It also created something that reaches far beyond the banks themselves: a deep community of financial professionals and expertise.

So it makes sense that the next generation of financial planners can now prepare for the profession right here.

UNC Charlotte is launching the new CFP® Certification Financial Planning Education Program, designed to prepare professionals for careers in financial advising and wealth management and provide the education needed on the path toward CFP® certification.

The seven-course program covers core areas of financial planning, including investments, retirement, tax planning, insurance and estate planning. Students also learn to develop integrated financial plans, evaluate portfolio strategies and apply ethical standards in practice. Access to eMoney® financial planning software is included.

Designed with working professionals in mind, the program is online and typically can be completed in about 12 months. Students learn from experienced CFP® professionals with backgrounds spanning financial planning, wealth management, retirement planning and financial education.

Charlotte has spent generations building its reputation as a financial center. Now UNC Charlotte is helping prepare the professionals who can shape what comes next.
