Stamper Selected to Lead Charlotte’s New Online Undergraduate Degree

March 7, 2022

Brandy Stamper will serve as the inaugural program director for a new innovative online program in professional studies offered by UNC Charlotte. The online degree-completion program is designed for working professionals who need a bachelor’s degree to complement their skillsets and propel them upward on the career ladder.

“Dr. Stamper’s experience in curriculum development and in working across academic units make her an excellent choice to lead the professional studies degree. Her knowledge will benefit our future students and our partners. I also welcome the partnership with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences in meeting the needs of students and our community,” said Associate Provost Asher Haines of the School of Professional Studies.
Stamper will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction for the professional studies degree. Stamper holds a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree from UNC Charlotte with a Higher Education concentration. She brings 13 years of experience in online student-centered teaching, academic advising, program development, evaluation, and assessment to this new role.

“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to build upon the University’s successes and expand the School of Professional Studies’ support of adult learners,” said Stamper. “My experience as a member of the Charlotte community as an adult student, an advisor, and as a lecturer gives me a unique perspective from a number of viewpoints that will be valuable in this new position.”

The online curriculum allows students to tailor a plan of study to their professional goals and draw on past work and academic experience. The program includes a focus on workplace-focused skills - communication and leadership - along with technical skills tracks in project management, human resource management, and information technology to prepare graduates for in-demand jobs.

"This partnership between CLAS and the School of Professional Studies demonstrates Charlotte's commitment to offering new programs that are interdisciplinary in nature," said Dean Nancy Gutierrez. "The B.S. in Professional Studies program is rooted in the liberal arts tradition as it gives students a broad knowledge across various disciplines. Dr. Stamper's experience in program development will help nurture adult students who need to advance in their careers."

The program application opens on August 1 for prospective students who will start classes in January 2023. For more information on the program or to speak with an enrollment specialist, please visit the program page at https://distanceed.charlotte.edu/programs/bs-in-professional-studies.
